Messy Minnow

Messy Minnow

Orginated by Ben Turpin

This fly was created by merging saltwater fly patterns and freshwater sizes.  The Messy minnow has a very realistic look and profile in the water that fish can’t resist.  The Guides at The Rod and Gun Club have had success with this fly for smallmouth bass and trout on all of the Pocono streams including the Delaware and Lehigh rivers.  The fly is meant to be fished on a long tippet with the weight placed 12 to 18 inches above the fly to maximize its natural movement in the water.  Slow stripping techniques usually out produce fast ones, but vary retrieves until you find what is working for the day.   Many fish will strike the fly on the fall.
